Who is Yohji Yamamoto?

Yohji Yamamoto is a Japanese fashion designer who is based in Tokyo and Paris. He is best known for his avant-garde tailoring, products include shirts, coats, pants, shoes, hats, and other accessories. He is widely regarded as a master tailor throughout Europe and his work is often compared to that of Madeleine Vionnet, a French fashion designer from the early 1900s. Throughout his career, he has worked with many major brands such as Adidas, Hermès, Mikimoto and Mandarina Duck, and collaborated with multiple artists. These include Sir Elton John, Tina Turner, Takeshi Kitano, and many others. He is also praised by many other fashion designers like Rick Owens. Launhing his debut collection, Y's, in 1977, Yamamoto quickly entered the public eye with his unique style of clothing. Yohji currently owns several flagship shops located in Antwerp, Paris, New York, and various premium department stores nationwide. By 2007, Yamamoto's main lines stood at an annual $100 million. Yamamoto is also known for primarily using the color black for his designs and products. The "dressmaker", as he often prefers over the term fashion designer, has stated on multiple occasions how black is his favorite color.
